My Favorite Mistake Review

Two secrets. One bet. Who will break first?

Taylor Caldwell can’t decide if she wants to kiss her new college roommate or punch him.

On the one hand, Hunter Zaccadelli is a handsome blue-eyed bundle of charm. On the other, he’s a tattooed, guitar-playing bad boy. Maybe that’s why Taylor’s afraid of falling in love with him, or anyone else. She doesn’t want to get burned, so she needs him gone before it’s too late.

Hunter himself has been burned before, but Taylor’s sexy laugh and refusal to let him get away with anything make her irresistible. But when the man behind Taylor’s fear of giving up her heart resurfaces, she has to decide: trust Hunter with her greatest secret, or do everything in her power to win that bet and drive him away forever.

This review is going to be short and sweet, because this book felt short and sweet.

It’s generally a really good lazy-day fast-read, and I admit I only picked it up because I recently read Wait for You and this sounded remarkably similar.  Both girls have issues with dating and handling themselves in a crowd. Both guys want to break through to the girl, but have their own issues to deal with as well.

Although this isn’t a book that you’d remember for days, or a book that would keep you up at night, flipping pages restlessly, it was a very good book. The plot was hilarious, and the characters were different and unique, which does make the book stand out.

I really like the cover. It’s so artistic and it connects to the plot, so that was a bonus. I typically love these kinds of covers. The colors and the contrasts and everything about this cover screamed PICK ME UP AND READ ME.

The beginning was a little hectic for me, and I didn’t think I’d like this book very much because of it. As soon as I started reading, a million and one things happened, including Taylor punching Hunter in the face and kneeing him in his nether regions. It had my head spinning and I was a little overwhelmed.

The rest of the book must have been written on cloud nine. The romance, once it got started (cuz we all knew it would) was sizzling hot! But then, I would fall for a guy who played the guitar, sang, and cooked like nobody’s business, too. They have a really cute connection, and it cracks me up to read about them bantering. This book made me extremely happy, and it held up an awesome sense of humor throughout.

I really also liked that this wasn’t a very dramatic read. I like drama, don’t get me wrong, but sometimes the eye-rolling over-dramatic antics are just not something you want to read about. It was good that neither of the characters were overreacting, and the character development was not rushed.

I give this book 4 stars because, even though it was a very good read, it wasn’t my favorite book. It was one of those books that lets you enjoy not thinking and takes you to another word and brings out all your day-dreaming fantasies under the blue summer sky.

I do recommend you pick it up if you need a quick read before summer ends. Now that everyone’s rushing to get in as many books as possible (as am I, as you can tell, since I’ve been avoiding life and this blog and everything else in favor of just reading) it’s a good time to start picking up books like these.

Over all, well done! The author deserves a pat on the back for bringing this story into the world.
