Be With Me Review

Teresa Hamilton is having a rough year—she’s in love with her big brother’s best friend, but he hasn’t spoken to her since they shared a truly amazing, mind-blowing, change-your-life kiss. She got out of a terrible relationship. And now an injury is threatening to end her dance career for good. It’s time for Plan B – college. And maybe a chance to convince Jase that what they have together is real.

Jase Winstead has a huge secret that he’s not telling anyone. Especially not his best friend’s incredibly beautiful sister. Even though he and Teresa shared the hottest kiss of his life, he knows that his responsibilities must take priority. He certainly doesn’t have time for a relationship. But it doesn’t help that all he can think about kissing the one girl who could ruin everything for him.

As they’re thrown together more and more, Jase and Tess can’t keep denying their feelings for each other. But a familiar danger looms and tragedy strikes. As the campus recovers, the star-crossed couple must decide what they’re willing to risk to be together, and what they’re willing to lose if they’re not…

I read the book because I wanted some more Cam and Avery.

Come on! Don’t tell me I’m the only one! Those two are just so… AMAZING! At least I’m able to admit it… even though I do feel slightly guilty for it. Just slightly. 😀 It’s okay, though, because J. Lynn knows exactly why we read these books. She included a few very cute Cam and Avery moments in here that just melted my heart and one of them just about gave me a heart attack – in a good way. You will never ever ever guess what it was!

But that’s not why we’ve all gathered here today. Nope, we are here to discuss Be With Me, which is Jase and Tess. If I recall correctly, I think Jennifer L. Armentrout actually said that Jase superseded Cam’s spot as her favorite book boyfriend she has ever written about. I was so excited! I couldn’t fathom that there was someone out there that could be HOTTER than Cam. I mean – what?! Impossible right? RIGHT?

Right.

I’m sorry, J. Lynn, I’m calling this one. Jase was hot and absolutely mouth watering and all that stuff, but he doesn’t have a turtle, and he doesn’t bake cookies. Plus, Cam is a bigger alpha male than Jase is, which totally wins brownie points from me.

That is not to say that I didn’t enjoy this book! Nope! I absolutely devoured it!

There is just so much that happens in this book, it’s really hard to tell you why I loved it plot-wise. We really see a growth in Tess’ character, as well as Jase’s. There are a lot of issues they both have to deal with and grow through, and these issues are keeping them both apart. How can you be with someone when, on some days, you can’t even stand being with yourself? This was definitely a deeper book than Wait for You was, but for the purpose of how this book was written, it worked very well! This made both of the books distinct, which I like! Because, guys, there’s nothing worse than reading a book that has a sequel, expecting the sequel to be amazing, and then realizing that it’s basically the same story rewritten. It’s true. I know a few books like that. I’m sure you do, too.

The personality of this book and both of the characters is also very different. This is what makes it very hard to compare this book to Wait for You – because you can’t! It’s like comparing Christmas with your birthday. You get presents on both, but you can’t call one better than the other. They are just too different! But you CAN pick favorites. Just saying.

But I will say this – Jennifer, if you could PLEASE open up a school to teach boys to be as mouth-watering as your characters, I will highly support, stand-by and FUND the project! Because not only do I have Cam in my boy-dreams, now I also have Jase?! This does not bode well for me! I will have a heart attack in my sleep!

Jase is for all you girls who are into country-men. He lives on a farm, which means he rides horses and lifts heavy objects and rides in trucks and all that manly-man stuff that makes him built and tanned. Mmm. Yummy tan. And he’s also very alpha. I said Cam was more alpha, but that doesn’t stop Jase from being completely overbearing and in charge and just… so hot! And when him and Cam face off against each other… I think I swooned a few times. Way too much testosterone in the air! I would have fainted if I were there for real.

He’s the type to see a girl in trouble, swoop her up over his shoulder and take her to his man cave to protect her. He will stand outside your window with a stereo over his head playing your favorite song until you come out. He will go out of his way to get you your favorite cupcakes every day, just to see a smile on your face. He’s basically the kind of guy that makes the real guys in life seem very disappointing, because no matter what they do, they cannot possibly be perfect like Jase is. Buuut – he’s got a secret! And boy, that WAS a secret! I mean, I was so not expecting Jase to… and then he was, so I was like WHAT?! But it’s okay cuz he’s just very *sigh*! Yes, that is me censoring myself. It’s hard! You read the book and try to work around it!

Tess is just infuriatingly awesome! She’s completely bull-headed and clever and just as manipulative as Cam can be. She’s dealing with her own issues, and sometimes makes some stupid choices that provide a lot of entertainment for those of us who enjoy the embarrassment of others. But she’s also very likeable and fun and someone who you would love to hang out with. She is constantly thinking of others, and even though she’s not the strong heroin you want her to be in the beginning, she does get there eventually.

The ending caught me completely off guard! I think that Jennifer Armentrout lulls you into this false sense of security in the book, where you’re seeing a sort of pattern form so you know what to expect next. And then BAM! A whole lot of stuff happens at once, starting with the stuff that goes down with her roommate and then going onwards to the end. The last half of the book was just chaos and beating hearts and me possibly being scared off of living on residence at a college/university EVER. The book took a completely surprising turn and played off it so well! It completely set the first book apart!

This is what redeemed this book for me.

Because, now that I have told you about how much I loved this book, there is a small confession here. I actually did not like it as much as I liked the first book. It was amazing! Totally worth reading and awesome in its own right! But I think I was reading this with the expectation of it being completely like Wait for You, but it wasn’t! It was a different feel and situation and had its own crazy bouts of awesomeness! You cannot possibly compare these two books because they re so distinct, so the only thing to do is to treat them as completely different books that have nothing to do with each other. And Cam – the reason I fell in love with Wait for You – is not Jase!

I think that now that I realized this, if I reread it I would enjoy this book a lot more. Because, honestly, it is one of the better books I have ever read. If I hadn’t read Wait for You first, I would probably think that this book is my favorite EVER! But I did read Wait for You first, and so I’m sorry but… Cam wins.

4.8 Stars! So close to being as awesome as Cam, but not quite there.

Now if you excuse me… I’m gonna reread it. 😀 Cuz even though it’s not as awesome as Cam is… it’s still pretty darn awesome!

Stay With Me (Wait For You #3) Updates and Gossips

16 Feb

February 16, 2014:

So, if you are like me and have turned into a complete and utter stalker for the Wait for You Series, here’s some gossip that’s been traveling around the interwebs:

19501672

Firstly, the paperback of Stay With Me (Wait for You #3) is expected to be released September 2nd, 2014. I know, right! That’s SO FAR AWAY. It’s going to be a painful wait. Especially since you’ll never guess who is going to be featured in this book.

Olly and Britt!

Just kidding. Even though I’d LOVE to get a full Olly/Britt book, it turns out that J. Lynn is releasing a short on Olly/Britt within a collaborated novel of a series of shorts from different authors. The book it will be featured in is Fifty First Times: A New Adult Anthology, which is set to release February 25th, 2014! The short will be called Believe In Me.

18513487

It feels like she’s teasing us, doesn’t it?

I think that this book will only be available in ebook, but I’m hoping that it will become available in print copy eventually. Hopefully. Maybe…

Okay, now that THAT is out in the open, I bet you’re still wondering who Stay With Me will feature.

If you have NOT snagged a copy of Be With Me, you will not know who these two are: Calla and Brandon. Well, I’m assuming it’s Brandon… he only shows up in one scene of Be With Me, but he’s described as a hunky army-type guy with serious hotness and intense awesome yummy-ness. Apparently, he’s seen a lot of stuff and is a bit messed up because of it. *sigh* I love the broken-hero story.

Calla is Teressa’s friend who shows up quite a lot in Be With Me. She’s a little fuller in the thighs than most girls, and has a scar marring her face. Even though she’s gorgeous, she’s also very self-conscious about her looks.

Here’s a little excerpt J. Lynn has released from Stay With Me:

“Already explained that, honey, but I’ll explain something else to you. When I want something, I go for it. Life is way too damn short to live any other way. And I want to get to know you better,” Those lashes lowered one more time, his gaze tracking to my lips like they were some kind of mecca. “Yeah, I want to definitely get to know you better.”~Jennifer Armentrout, Stay with Me

You don’t understand. When I was reading Be With Me, I kept HOPING AND PRAYING that there would  be a fourth book about Calla and Brandon, because I thought that Olly and Britt would be in Stay With Me. So I did some digging, and found out that Olly and Britt would actually be getting a short, and Calla and Brandon would be in Stay With Me. Which works out because even though I love Olly and Britt, I’m much more curious about Calla and Brandon, why Calla has her scar, what messed up Brandon, and how these two will get together. But, then again, nothing about Brandon being in Stay With Me has been confirmed yet, as far as I know. Even though it will happen. We all know it will. Just nod, cuz I’m absolutely positive I’m right. Brandon is PERFECT material for Stay With Me.

I might update this a while later if I find out any more.

What do you guys think? Do you like that Stay With Me will be about Calla and Brandon? Are you disappointed that it won’t be about Britt and Olly? Personally, I wish that Wait for You wasn’t just a trilogy. I feel like I could live in this world full of broken people finding a love that heals for a little longer than is planned in the publishing world, but that’s just me.

—- UPDATE March 4, 2014 —-

So it turns out that THERE WILL BE MORE BOOKS IN THE SERIES!

Whoo! So after Stay With Me, there are 3 more books that have been added! Here’s the official announcement:

NYT and USA Today bestselling author, Jennifer Armentrout’s DREAM OF YOU, COME WITH ME and FIRE IN YOU, in the continuing series that began with the #1 NYT bestselling novel, WAIT FOR YOU, to Tessa Woodward at William Morrow, in a major deal, for publication in April 2015, by Kevan Lyon at Marsal Lyon Literary Agency (World English).
Foreign: Taryn Fagerness Agency

The very first book, Dream of You has a release date of April 2015, where you will get to read about some characters you meet in Stay With Me. PLUS! Apparently, something extra special is gonna go down between  Cam + Avery.

Do Teresa and Jase have a real shot at getting together or will life get in the way?

EXCERPT:

“You got a visitor, Tess.” He rested his chin atop my head, which caused my pulse to try

to outrun my heart. “Two of them to be exact.”

“Okay.”

There was a pause. “Are your eyes closed?”

“No.”

His chin slid off my head and then his chest rumbled as he laughed. “Your eyes are

closed.” He laughed again. “Open them up.”

Cursing under my breath, I pried one eye open and then jerked against him. His arm

tightened. “Oh wow …”

The black-and-white horse was the closest, standing mere feet away from me. The brown

one wasn’t too far, shaking its head and making soft snorts. My eyes were wide as they bounced

between the two creatures. “They’re not carnivorous, right? Because at their size, they could eat

me.”

Jase laughed deeply as his hand shifted up, resting in the center of my stomach, just

below my breasts. “Horses do not eat people, you little idiot.”

I started, eyes narrowing. “There’s always a first.”

The lips pulled back on the black-and-white horse as if it was smirking at me.

“This one right here? Mr. Friendly? Jack calls him Bubba One,” he said in a quiet,

calming voice. But air hitched in my throat when his thumb moved in a slow circle over the thin

material of my tank top, hitting against the wire in my bra. “And the brown one is Bubba Two.”

Mouth dry, I wetted my lips. “That’s good for remembering names.”

He chuckled as his pinkie and forefinger started to move up and down, reaching my belly

button and then sliding back up. It was almost as if he was unaware of what he was doing, or the

electrifying response the tiny motions were dragging out of me. “I think so too, but his real name

is Lightning.”

Said horse shook his head, tossing the shaggy mane.

“Lightning seems to be a more suitable name,” I admitted, relaxing as the seconds

passed. Maybe that was his intention. Distract me with the soft, almost innocent touches. It was

working. “What about Bubba Two?

“Ah, the one who is staring at the pail like it’s the holy mecca of grain?” His cheek

grazed mine as I laughed. “That’s Thunder. And we’re going to feed them. Together.”

The friction his fingers created with my shirt sent tiny shivers up and down my back.

“With our hands?”

His answering laugh tipped the corners of my lips up. “Yes. With our hands.”

“After checking out the choppers on them, I’m not so sure about that.”

“You’ll be okay.” He slid his hand off my stomach and wrapped it around my wrist.

Slowly, he lifted my hand out in front of me. “Hold still.”

My heart lurched. “Jase—”

Lightning trotted forward and pressed his wet nose against my hand. I cringed, waiting

for him to eat my poor fingers. The horse didn’t. Nope. It nudged my hand as it whinnied softly.

He guided my hand up over Lightning’s jaw, all the way to the pointy, twitchy ears.

“See?” he murmured. “That’s not too bad, is it?”

I shook my head as my fingers curled along the soft coat. Lightning seemed to anticipate

the direction of the petting, pressing his long head against my hand as my fingers tangled in his

mane. It wasn’t bad at all.

Jase shifted behind me, and in an instant all thoughts of the horses evaporated. His hips

lined up against my backside, and I bit down on my lower lip as I focused on the white splotch

covering Lightning’s muzzle.

I could feel him—feel Jase. And there was absolutely no doubt in my mind that he was

affected by how close we were standing. That knowledge and the hard length of him left me

dizzy, just like it had done that Saturday night. An all too warm flush spread down my neck. In

the back of my head, I was rationalizing his physical reaction. He was a guy. Our bodies were pressed

together. If a wind blew on a guy’s private area, they got hard. So I should just ignore it,

but my body was so not on board with my head. My body was operating on a different playing

field. An ache centered low in my stomach. A sharp and sweet yearning raced through my veins.

“Not so scary, right?” His voice was deeper, richer. “They’re like dogs. Well, like a dog

that can carry around two hundred pounds, if not more.” Hand sliding off mine, he stepped back,

and the sudden emptiness of his body was like a cold shock. “Trust me.”

Then he smacked my ass.
